Physiology Department
The Department of Physiology at RLKU Medical College provides a robust foundation in body functions and homeostasis for early MBBS years. Teaching is aligned with the UHS curriculum and mapped to program learning outcomes, progressing from core concepts to clinical application.
Our Physiology Laboratory supports hands-on learning across cardiovascular, respiratory, neuro-muscular, renal, endocrine, and special senses. Practical work is delivered through structured timetables with defined faculty allocation and technician duty rosters. Facilities include ECG and blood pressure recording setups, spirometry and peak-flow meters, hematology stations, reflex and nerve–muscle apparatus, urinalysis benches, calorimetry/metabolism experiments, and audiovisual demonstration areas. Data recording and analysis are supported by standard lab software where appropriate.
Pedagogy integrates with Anatomy, Biochemistry, and clinical departments via case-linked tutorials, problem-solving sessions, and interpretation of laboratory/bedside physiological data. Regular formative assessments, OSPEs, and timely feedback guide learner progress. Students have access to the Library and Digital Resource Center for recommended texts, guidelines, and curated e-resources.
The department maintains safety SOPs and quality assurance for equipment calibration, consumables, and specimen handling. Faculty engage in curriculum review, scholarly activity, and continuous improvement of teaching and assessment.
Through disciplined instruction, well-organized practical, and student-centered support, the Department of Physiology equips learners to apply physiological principles to diagnostics, clinical reasoning, and lifelong medical practice.
