Our department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences focuses on mental health awareness, mental health counselling, medical aspects of mental health, and teaching Behavioural Sciences as a subject in Medicine. Behavioural Sciences is the study of human behaviour, and in our curriculum, we teach medical students psychiatry (includes medicine prescriptions for patients with mental illnesses), psychology (includes psychotherapy techniques and understanding how the mind works), sociology, and medical anthropology. We also promote research on Psychiatry, which encompasses mental health related to other medical fields as well. This helps medical students to make accurate connections between mental health effects on patients who have diseases related to other medical fields. We help medical students to develop skills that will work in the practice of any medical fields. This is because we focus on helping doctors and medical students to speak effectively with patients, to develop strong trusting professional relationships with patients, and to promote rapport building with patients. All of these are skills needed in any field of medicine. Our work is based on making this learning process accurate and comprehensive for medical students and for doctors in training. We hope to do our aims justice and create a positive learning environment for learners.
