At RLKU Medical College’s attached hospitals—HLTH and HLH—Orthopaedics delivers consultant-led care across OPD, emergency, day-care and theatres, with integrated diagnostics and peri-operative pathways. Services cover trauma/fracture management, arthroscopy, joint replacement, spine, pediatric Orthopaedics, and deformity correction, supported by multidisciplinary anesthesia, radiology and rehabilitation teams. HLH additionally provides arthroscopic ligament/joint repair and total hip/knee replacement alongside comprehensive fracture care.
As a teaching unit, the department follows the UHS-aligned curriculum with structured bedside teaching, skills-lab sessions, supervised clinics/OR exposure, and case-based discussions. Students develop competencies in focused musculoskeletal history and examination, radiograph interpretation, initial trauma care (immobilization, reduction principles), peri-operative infection prevention, analgesia/VTE prophylaxis concepts, and rehabilitation basics. Assessment employs OSCEs, DOPS/mini-CEX, logbooks and case presentations with timely feedback and remediation.
