Community Medicine Department
The department of community medicine is a basic science department within the RLKU Medical College. The overall goal of the teaching of undergraduate students in Community Medicine is to prepare them to function as community and first level physicians. During the training, students should acquire knowledge and skills so that they can practice community medicine after graduation. On completion of training, student is expected to acquire the following knowledge and skills.
Understanding of physical, social, psychological, economic, and environmental determinants of health and diseases. Ability to recognize and manage common health problems at individual, family, and community level, especially in the context of National Health Programs. Knowledge of reproductive and child health with regards to national health care priorities and ability to Implement and monitor National health programs in the primary care setting. Ability to recognize, investigate, report, and manage community health problems and emergencies. Promotion of health and prevention and cure of diseases. The department is run by a highly qualified and well experienced faculty in research work done in collaboration with international agencies and implementing various public health projects in Pakistan.
The department will engage students in various activities such as observance of important public health days, field visits to the organizations related to public health, family surveys with follow up visits and other operational research; are being carried out in these centres. Department expected to organize the State level annual Public Health conference and trainings.
