The Department of Biochemistry at RLKU Medical College builds a core understanding of biomolecules, enzymes, metabolism, genetics, and clinical chemistry with clear clinical links. Teaching aligns with the UHS curriculum and the mapped program learning outcomes.
The laboratory supports hands-on learning through spectrophotometry/colorimetry stations, centrifuges, micropipettes, electrophoresis units, pH/buffer benches, incubators, water baths, balances, and urinalysis/dry-chemistry setups. Practical run on structured timetables with defined faculty allocation and technician rosters. Calibration logs, reagent inventory, biosafety, and waste-disposal SOPs are maintained.
Pedagogy integrates with Physiology, Anatomy, Pathology, and Pharmacology through case-linked tutorials connecting pathways to lab data, disease mechanisms, and therapeutics. Students practice data recording, interpretation, basic quality control, and error analysis.
Assessment includes practical notebooks, OSPEs, Vivas, and timely feedback with remediation support. Students access the Library/Digital Resource Center for guidelines and core references. Faculty lead curriculum review, scholarly activity, and continuous quality improvement—ensuring reliable practical exposure, disciplined teaching, and skills essential for diagnostics, therapeutic monitoring, and lifelong medical practice
