Objectives of the RLKUMC Research Advisory Committee (RAC)
1. Formulate and Refine Research Policies
Craft, review, and update institutional policies and procedural guidelines—including those governing ethical considerations, research design, data handling, publication, and intellectual property—ensuring alignment with WFME standards and applicable local regulations.
2. Promote a Robust Research Culture
Foster interest and participation in research among both faculty members and students by identifying promising research areas, facilitating funding opportunities, and encouraging external collaborations.
3. Evaluate Research Proposals
Systematically assess and provide constructive feedback on research proposals submitted by students and faculty, ensuring they are scientifically sound, feasible, and ethically responsible.
4. Monitor and Evaluate Research Projects
Track the progress of ongoing research initiatives, offer guidance and support, ensure adherence to timelines and ethical protocols, and conduct periodic evaluations to identify and implement improvements.
5. Enhance Research Skills and Capacity
Lead efforts in organizing workshops, seminars, training programs, and mentorship initiatives to build research competency among faculty and students.
6. Oversee Research Ethics
Establish systems for ethical oversight—particularly for studies involving human or animal subjects—by ensuring compliance with institutional review board (IRB) requirements, regulations, and ethical standards.
7. Facilitate Collaboration and Networking
Encourage and foster research partnerships with other institutions, organizations, and industry stakeholders to support interdisciplinary initiatives and resource-sharing.
8. Encourage Research Dissemination
Support the publication and presentation of research findings through journals, conferences, and other scholarly platforms, while promoting ethical authorship and publication practices.
9. Reporting Responsibilities
Prepare and submit regular reports detailing research activity, project progress, challenges encountered, and proposed improvements to relevant governing bodies.
Rationale of the RAC
According to the TORs, the RAC was established as a standing committee of the Academic Council. Its foundational purpose is:
• To develop, monitor, and promote research activities within the institution, ensuring they align with both national and international guidelines.
• To fulfill the standards outlined by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) within the National Accreditation Framework for Medical and Dental Schools in Pakistan 2019
